MAPF is a UK-registered charity founded in 1981, dedicated to delivering vital medical aid—such as equipment, prostheses, wheelchairs, medicines, and rehabilitation support—to underserved communities across Poland.
The charity was initiated in response to an appeal from Solidarity's leader, Lech Wałęsa, in August 1981. The first supplies were sent to Poland in early 1982, and MAPF was formally established via a Trust Deed on 10 March 1982.
MAPF has sent a remarkable total of 335 aid shipments (trucks) to Poland between 1982 and 1996. Over the years, it also provided millions of pounds worth of assistance, including hearing aids, artificial limbs, insulin pumps, specialist medicines, and more.
Registered with the Charity Commission in March 1982 (charity number 284461), MAPF is governed by a Trust and operated by dedicated trustees and volunteers. Current trustees include Dr Bożena Laskiewicz (Chair), Dr Anna Bentkowska, and Irma Pietroń; the charity relies on voluntary contributions from its Executive Committee and Office team.
For the financial year ending 31 December 2023, MAPF reported total income of £153,707 and total expenditure of £90,642. Donations support grants to organizations and individuals, and the advancement of health and life-saving aid
